5 Fruits And Veggies You’ve Been Eating Completely Wrong

OK, hold onto your butts, because they’re about to be blown wide open.

Wait, jesus. That’s… horrible. That might be the most horrible opening I’ve ever written.

Too late it already happened. Let’s just forget it and move on.

Anyway, there are 5 fruits and veggies that you would probably eat a lot more of if you knew they were this easy to eat.

And everyone loves being told they’re wrong, right? Right!

So here are 5 fruits and veggies you’ve been eating wrong, and how to eat them the right way:

A Different Way To Eat

Avocado

“I only eat avocado sliced into equal strips along a perfectly laid out plate with just a dash of salsa verde and some lime…”

You’re wrong dude. And full of crap.

Avocado has a bad rep as being a food that’s hard to eat, when in fact it’s actually super easy to eat them.

You don’t have to get it out of the rind. You don’t have to cut it up. You don’t even have to serve it on a plate.

Can you find the 3 veggies that melt belly fat? Take this quiz and find out: Veggie Quiz

Just cut it in half, grab a spoon, and scoop it right out of the shell. Sprinkle some salt and pepper on there if you want to – go nuts. Enjoy.

Pomegranates

Yikes! Pomegranates! Those are hard to spell! Plus the juice stains eeeeeverything!

Calm down. You’re eating them wrong (because I said so!) From the Wit & Whistle – here’s the right way to eat a pomegranate.

Find the piece that’s sticking out at the top and cut a small cone around it so that you can take it out. Then, slice a small, thin piece off the other end and make a light, shallow cut on each of the ridges that run from the top to the bottom.

Then just pull it apart and voila! It presents the seeds to you with no mess, no fuss, and no juice stained clothing.

Mandarin Oranges

“i know how to peel an orange!” you shriek, sticky juice running down your hands and squirting into your eyes as you stumble around your living room bellowing at the ceiling.

At least, that used to be you, until you learned this awesome method from JewelPie.

Cut a slice off either end, cut a slit in one side of it, and the whole thing rolls apart into a long orange strip that looks kind of like an accordion.

Awesome.

Kiwis

Kiwis don’t need to be served in slices. They don’t have to have the skin peeled off them first. You can free them from the tyranny of fruit bowls!

With this very easy method from TheKitchn.

It’s super easy. All you have to do is cut them in half, and then eat the insides out of the skin with a spoon! Sounds disgusting! But it’s actually delicious! Because kiwis!

Beets

Beets are great. Beets are so great, you guys. They’re super awesome.

They’re so great, and awesome, that they don’t even have to be cooked!!

It’s true! You can eat beets raw! The awesome people at TheKitchn will show you how!

Just cut off each end of the beet, peel it, and then slice it up thin.

Boom. Beet chips that are delicious. You can add some seasoning if you want, or just go to town on them. It’s up to you!

LOL. These are good. I hate if the food I am trying to eat the right way is making a mess the entire time. I know I have been eating fruits the wrong way according to this post, LOL.

What great tips! These are tough foods to get “open” and to eat without any mess. These tips will get you going in the right direction at least!

I have never had any issues with avocado because my mother taught me at an early age how to get them eaten. The pomegranate is another story altogether, thank you for the tips!

I would say that getting an Avocado peeled and onto your plate is one of the hardest things to do when it comes to eating something healthy!

I love to see things like this posted. LOL. All of them seem to be so easy, yet none of us would think that we are eating a fruit or vegetable the wrong way, right?

LOL, before reading this, I always ate the “easy” fruits and veggies because it was less time to mess with. Now that I see these tips, I am thinking that I can open my mind to new foods again :)

LOL, I agree with you Quinn. I don’t have the time to figure out these things. If they do not want to be eaten they do a great job of it!

I always knew that Avacodo was a little tricky, but that never kept me from eating them. It usually just made a mess for me, but now that I see how you prepare it, the mess will be long gone.

Everything but the beets lol. These are very good tips. Are there any other foods that are hard to “open” or eat? We should add them to this list as well.

I always thought Pomegranates were nearly impossible to enjoy. For the price of the juice that you can buy, it would make sense they take a long time to “figure” out, LOL. This is a great fruit and veggie tutorial!

I always buy the avocado that is in a package because I hate, hate getting one prepared. With that being said, it looks like you make it sound easy enough to try again with a fresh one.

  • Hannah April 14, 2015, 3:17 pm

You mean beets don’t just come in a can? :) That is the easiest way to eat them from what I have been told!

  • Trixxie April 12, 2015, 12:39 pm

I have always like Avocado’s but hated getting the food ready to eat, LOL. That sounds lazy, but with the tips you gave here, I might be able to enjoy them once again!

    • Mellie April 24, 2015, 7:14 pm

I always felt the same way! Great to hear that these tips might get them back on your plate!

  • Elle May April 11, 2015, 10:58 am

This is a great post! I never really thought about just finding the easy way to eat these types of food, I usually just try to ignore them :)

  • Sherry April 10, 2015, 12:48 pm

I love Pomegranates, but for the longest time I was unsure how the hell to get inside one :) Then YouTube came along and BOOM. No more mess and plenty of Pomegranates to go around.

  • Loraine April 9, 2015, 9:14 pm

Just think, I have been eating food the wrong way all of this time. LOL. These are hard to get into your mouth without a fight, but I think that you break it down pretty good.

Avocado has always been a pain in the neck for me, but now that I have the right tool for the job, it is much easier to eat and prepare.

  • Hannah April 8, 2015, 10:43 am

Thanks for these tips. They are awesome and since I hate making a mess when I eat, or prepare, food, these are going in the vault ;)

  • Jolanda April 7, 2015, 12:01 pm

Wow, these are great tips. Who would have thought that I was eating something in the wrong way? They seem to be very easy methods of getting to the good stuff without a mess, which I am all over!
