Clean Foods for Summer Diet Detox

10 Clean Foods For Your Summer Diet Detox

I’m not sure how to begin this article, so I will just get to the point.

Summer is rapidly approaching.

Man, that’s a really bland thing to say. Plus, what if you’re reading this article in like, July? Then summer will already be here!

what if you’re reading this article on the moon? There is no summer in the endless cold death-void of space.

Anyway. Enough about space.

Aside from the empty space where your love handles used to be!

Getting in shape and having the beach body you want doesn’t have to be hard. Here are 10 clean “superfoods” to help you get in shape for beach season:

1. Eat More Asparagus

I put this one first. Want to know why? Because asparagus is delicious.

Seriously y’all, it’s so good. So so good.

Plus it helps your liver drain! Who knew!

By cleaning out your liver, which is responsible for clearing toxins from your body, you purify your body and flush out harmful toxins.

Plus, you shouldn’t need more reasons to eat asparagus. It’s so freaking good.

2. Eat More Nuts

Nuts are also super good, y’all. These are some easy-ass foods I’m telling you to eat.

Unless you’re allergic to nuts. Then you shouldn’t eat them, even though they’re really good for you (in moderation).

They’ve got protein, fiber, and healthy fats that are actually good for you! Stay away from salted nuts and get ’em roasted if you want the most healthful kinds.

3. Eat More Hemp Seeds

No, they won’t get you high, you doofus. That’s why you can buy them in the supermarket and not from Shady Jeff. Don’t go over to Shady Jeff’s house alone.

They’ve got vitamins C and E, as well as a chock ton of fiber which will help keep you regular. Vitamins C and E work as antioxidants, which keep you healthy and living longer.

Spread ’em on top of pasta, smoothies, yogurt, oatmeal, pretty much anything that benefits from a tasty crunch.

4. Eat More Millet

If you’re reading this and thinking, “What the hell is millet?” you’re not alone.

Here. I’m going to Google it for you.

There. Now you know what millet is.

But did you also know that it has a ton of fiber, not that much simple sugar, and is even gluten free?

Plus, it acts as a prebiotic in your digestive system, keeping your tummy happy and healthy.

5. Eat More Buckwheat

OK, for the love of god, please, don’t eat Buckwheat, the adorable character from The Little Rascals.

That would be murder, not to mention cannibalism. Also, I’m not sure if that actor is still alive. This is depressing. Let’s move on.

Buckwheat’s got an awesome quality that it draws retained water out of your body, getting rid of bloating. It also has a low glycemic index and is also gluten free, just like millet (which totally exists).

You can top soups and salads with it and satisfy your body’s craving for healthy delicious gluten free starch.

6. Eat More Arugula

Arugula is good. I feel like I’m repeating myself?

That’s because these foods are just straight up good people! I shouldn’t be hyping them up, that would make them too popular… and then you’d buy all of them and leave me with none … and then where would I be???

living a hemp seed-less existence, that’s where. i won’t let that happen.

Arugula’s got lots of antioxidants, plus a ton of fiber for making you poop right. It’s been shown to help reduce the risk of cancer, and it also has high levels of chlorophyll, which will remove heavy metal toxins from your body.

7. Eat More Organic Sea Vegetables

Just look in the “organic sea vegetable” section of your grocery store! I hope you realize I was being sarcastic. But it’d be cool if there was an organic sea vegetable section in the grocery store.

But seriously, these are some of the only foods in the world that contain compounds known as “polysaccharides”, which are powerful natural anti-inflammatories.

That’s good for you. You don’t want to be inflamed.

Eat ’em with pretty much anything, but especially sushi.

8. Drink More Cashew Milk

With all the different types of milk out there, it’s easy to get confused. (And that’s not even counting the gross milk Shady Jeff sells).

But cashew milk has a few benefits over all of them – there are no genetically modified ingredients, and it tastes like delicious amazing cashews.

And cashews are good for you. Because they’re nuts. And these are nuts you can drink. Let’s move on before I get myself in trouble.

9. Eat More Gogi Berries

What are gogi berries? what are gogi berries?

They’re great, that’s what.

They have the incredible distinction of containing more vitamin C per gram than oranges and more beta-carotene than carrots (literally the nutrient they were named after).

Eat ’em raw, or in juice, muffins, scones, granola bars, trail mix, hell eat ’em however! Go nuts! See if I care!

10. Eat More Lentils

I put these last, because everyone knows lentils are great for you and lentils are boring.

And I don’t like them very much. So there i said it my secret is out oh god the whole world can destroy me now.

Anyway, just because I have a weird and unnerving dislike for lentils doesn’t mean that you have to . Lentils have a crap load of fiber in them (no pun intended oh god please make it stop) and they also slow down digestion, which stabilizes your blood sugar.

Eat ’em however you want, it won’t make ’em any better.

but they’ll still be good for you.

We have Asparagus that grows in the yard, but we never take it. I think I might try a meal with that in it tonight. Fresh Asparagus has to be good for you, right?

    • Vanesha Green June 1, 2015, 11:33 am

You got that right. The vitamins and other minerals that you can get from eating it a couple of times per week will make for a great detox AND healthy diet.

  • Bailey S. May 24, 2015, 11:00 am

What I find interesting is that when you detox, you generally feel great, but if you go back to eating Big Mac’s, how do you expect to get a head?

  • Richard Barer May 24, 2015, 10:46 am

If you are going to do a natural detox, THESE are the foods that you need to start with. Good luck!

  • JuiceMan May 24, 2015, 10:24 am

Between green smoothies and food like this, natural detox is so easy. There are many “detox” programs that you can buy, but I do not see how you will benefit from them when you can do it naturally with foods like this.

  • Olivia Greene May 24, 2015, 10:10 am

I am in the middle of a 10 day detox and I feel great so far. When I first started it seemed like it was going to take forever, but now that I am used to getting the right foods (like the ones you have listed) and making sure that the detox goes without issue I cannot wait until I am done.

  • K. Loble May 24, 2015, 9:55 am

Detox can be very essential to your health. If you want to change up your diet, sometimes it is recommended that you do a detox first. It allows your body to purge a little and get prepared for the new foods that you plan to eat. I recommend one to whoever wants to make a healthy change.

  • Gorgeous George May 22, 2015, 9:44 pm

Detox is fun. I feel so good when I am done and recommend it to anyone that feels like they are in a rut with a diet or otherwise. Great tips here! Everyone should follow!

  • Pepper Jack May 22, 2015, 9:19 pm

People freak out when they hear “hemp”. The thing is it is really good for you and just like you mentioned here, it will NOT make you high. The grains and other nuts and things are great for your body, in moderation of course!

  • Dunker May 21, 2015, 10:51 pm

The best part is that I LOVE all of the things on this list. It is crazy to think that being healthy is just that one step further from where I am now. All I have to do is get off my butt and enjoy foods that I already like to prepare.

  • Xavier May 18, 2015, 10:34 am

What? I need to eat more lentils? I am ALL over that in a heartbeat! They are great and I try to add them to any meal if possible. Great list! Get healthy!

  • VeganJesus May 18, 2015, 10:16 am

I love to eat healthy and am always looking for ways to make my meals better for my mind, body and soul. Adding these foods should do the trick and now I am going to hit the web to see what recipes I can find. Thanks for the tips!

  • P. Adams May 18, 2015, 9:42 am

i tend to detox one time per year if I can find a new way to do so. most of these foods are a part of my normal diet, so it shouldn’t be too hard to implement them. Do you think that it is a bad thing if I detox too much?

  • Becky Swanson May 18, 2015, 9:24 am

When it comes to detox, I like to recommend that you do it no more than one time per year. You do not want your body to purge any of the “good” things that you need inside to digest and things like that. One time per year is a great way to keep things cleaned out and healthy!

  • WhimpyKid May 18, 2015, 9:08 am

All of these are great additions to any diet. If you need to have more of anything, make sure you get it into your body in an easy way. Don’t make it a struggle and it will be easier to change up your diet and such.

  • Rebecca Orlear May 16, 2015, 4:04 pm

If you are going to do a detox, make sure you follow any instructions that you can. It is very important that even though you are trying to rid your body of the bad things that you do not forget to add the good things back.

  • Kacey Figgens May 16, 2015, 2:46 pm

I have never thought about putting more millet into my diet. LOL. It seems like bird food to me :) All kidding aside, those types of grains are always going to be good for you.

  • VeggieMan May 14, 2015, 9:50 pm

Yea, lentils are a good idea! The pack a great punch when it comes to your diet and if they are going to give you a little detox action at the same time, even better!

  • Lukas Mulkers May 14, 2015, 9:28 pm

I like to detox a couple of times per year. Usually right after winter and after summer. My body feels great and each time I do it a little different. Most of these foods I have figured into my diet to begin with so I guess you could say that I am on a continuous detox :)

  • Victor May 13, 2015, 12:43 pm

I have seen cashew milk on the shelf, but never really wanted to try it. If it will help with a detox and doesn’t taste like garbage, I will give it a try!

  • Becky Culer May 13, 2015, 12:25 pm

I love to detox a couple of times per year. It allows me to get all the nasty out of my body and “start” over. I always feel good for the first few weeks after a detox!

  • J. Beeck May 13, 2015, 12:07 pm

I have read about Gogi Berries and I think I am going to try them. Where I live, I could grow them in my yard so I might even try that since I have the extra room!

  • Adam Jones May 11, 2015, 8:40 am

Millet is a great way to sneak some healthiness into any meal! We also eat arugula instead of romaine or iceberg lettuce because it brings more to the table.

  • Irene Frank May 11, 2015, 8:23 am

I love to eat nuts. I usually fit them in between meals as a snack and they seem to keep me fuller longer. I was on a routine where I would eat 20 almonds before lunch and dinner and that seemed to work pretty good.

    Good tips here!

  • Jenny Brinkman May 11, 2015, 8:00 am

Any food that can cleanse your liver for you is going to be great for a detox. I used to drink lemon water in the morning hours and have asparagus with my breakfast. After about one week I felt great all day long and I am sure that is the reason!

  • Randy Millers May 9, 2015, 11:54 am

I have been eating more nuts lately. They go good with just about any meal and the benefits are great. Of course, if you eat too many of them, the benefits are greatly reduced. Good luck with your detox!

  • CheapShot99 May 9, 2015, 10:58 am

I always like to mix up the salads we eat with Arugula. It has a nice taste that is a little different flavor than iceburg or even romaine.

  • Brandon May 8, 2015, 9:39 pm

I love to eat asparagus! It is the perfect food for a side on a plate and the fact that it helps with you detox is an added bonus.

  • Jocelyn May 6, 2015, 8:51 pm

The first time that I did a detox I could not believe how good I felt. Is it safe to do a detox more than one time per year?

    • Jordan Micheals May 18, 2015, 10:55 am

I do not see why it would be unsafe to do. As long as you are following instructions and are not doing something completely unsafe for your body, you should be good to go!
